- Winter Packing List for Europe: Essential Items to Pack

Passengers must carry their alcohol on the Disney ship by hand and not pack it away in their checked luggage. One of the popular family-fun activities on a Disney Cruise is Pirate Night! From a themed dinner, to a dance party on the deck, and finishing off with fireworks, it’s a night for celebration.

They will take the kids off the ship to special play areas for supervised games and activities throughout the day. The Wi-Fi covers much of Castaway Cay and the app tends to work OK. But if you want your kids to join you for some time on the island, make sure you know their schedule of activities. They eat lunch fairly early, and are taken back to the ship before the beach closes. Frankly, our opinion is that it’s not worth the trouble, at least as a money-saving strategy.

The crew may lay out pirate bandanas in your stateroom for you to wear, but you should bring your own pirate gear from home. It's a bunch of fun to lean into the theme — and it's much cheaper to bring from home than buy onboard. With seven Disney cruises under my family's sea legs to destinations ranging from the sunny Bahamas to chilly Alaska, I now consider myself a Disney packing expert. Here is a tried-and-true Disney cruise packing list to take you from the beach to glaciers and back again. With this comprehensive Disney cruise packing checklist, your family will be fully prepared for a seamless, magical experience at sea.

European and Alaskan Disney cruises also have a themed deck party on one night. You will see a huge diversity of outfits in the restaurant. You will dine in each one of them at least once on your cruise. Best of all, you’ll get up to $1,000 in onboard spending credit to use for specialty dining, spa treatments, gratuities, and souvenirs. This process makes the buffet a little easier and healthier than the self-serve option. If your kids love tea parties and Disney princesses, you might want to book one of the Royal Court Royal Tea experiences on a Disney cruise.
Another sizable minority wears just their regular clothing, with no nod to the pirate festivities going on around them. The middle group is the largest, with guests making a minor nod to the theme of the evening such as more dramatic makeup, skull-themed jewelry, or some Disneybound piratewear. On most nights, the dress code is “cruise casual.” As Disney puts it, “Dining attire is cruise casual in all 3 main dining restaurants, meaning no swimwear or tank tops. Guests often like to dress up, but this is optional.” You will see everything from shorts to gowns, and everything in between! Most guests tend to fall into what I refer to as “Nice Dinner Out With The Family” – polos and khakis for men, dresses or pants and a cute top for women.
You might need to arrange with your provider for that feature to be turned on in advance, but most providers have it set up by default. Depending on your provider, roaming may be very expensive (potentially over $2 per minute, and $10 or more per megabyte of data). Check with your provider for special international roaming packages, which may save you money if you plan to use your phone a lot.

Almost all guests will want to have some sort of water shoe or sandal; the pavement can get quite hot. In my experience, far fewer guests make an attempt to dress thematically on Pixar night than they do on pirate night. Disney states that “guests are requested to dress in a manner consistent with the restaurant’s atmosphere. Generally for Disney Cruise Line we recommend the same thing that we do for all Disney vacations – wear clothes that are comfortable but nice looking. Throughout your trip you'll want to be capturing photos and making memories.

During the day (for warm weather destinations) many people will be in very casual clothing if they aren’t on the pool deck or an excursion. You can bring your own wine/champagne to the main dining rooms. The staff will charge a corking fee of $25 per bottle and will store it for you to drink each night at dinner. You can use a birth certificate to board the ship, but if you have an emergency in a port of call in a different country (like the Bahamas, for example), you’ll need a passport to travel home. Obviously, this isn’t a likely scenario, but I like to carry my passport just in case. If you’re not sure what the Disney cruise fish extender gift exchange is, make sure to read our thorough guide.

Listen, we are epic Frozen fans, so it was more a matter of….which attire we wanted to wear to the dinner. I put a couple of our favorite pieces on our disney cruise packing list and we ended up wearing everything. I wore a blue nap dress, and Lydia wore her new favorite frozen themed skirt and top along with her Pandora necklace with an Olaf charm.
Guests should also bring the appropriate attire for dinners and Port Adventures. When you get to the cruise terminal, Disney Cruise Line luggage handlers will load your luggage for you onto the boat and into your cabin or stateroom (this is your “hotel” room on the ship). While this is great because you don’t have to worry about boarding the boat with it, it also means you will be away from your belongings for most of the day. It could be late into the day by the time the crew members actually deliver your belongings. In this post we’ve got you covered for whatever kind of Disney Cruise outfit you’re looking for.

It is a very expensive form of international roaming and the ship must be 8 to 10 miles out to sea before you can access it. Most phones will just connect to Cellular@Sea without needing any special setup, but be aware that the service includes phone, text messaging, and data. If your phone is set to auto-update, you could end up on the hook for a large data charge because it decided to download a 100MB game update or something. Definitely turn off your cellular data, or set it to not use cellular data when roaming.
If you’re not a hot tub or spa person, it might be possible to leave your swimwear at home for this trip. Formal night, semi-formal night, and theme nights theoretically apply to anyone on the ship. You will sometimes see seven year old boys wearing tiny tuxedos. This is NOT, I repeat NOT, a requirement, nor is it the norm.
If buying your dinner wine in advance will help you relax, then go ahead; you certainly won’t lose much money unless you happen to always pick the cheapest wine on the list. And if you really love a particular wine or wines that you know are higher-priced, and you plan to only drink those, the plan will save you a few bucks per bottle. If they find disallowed items, the items will be confiscated and given back at the end of the cruise.
It will also show your table number and seating time, as well as the recommended dress code and menu. If you have trouble using the app, Guest Services or any of the dining locations can help you get that information. If you're sailing on one of Disney's Marvel, Pixar or other themed cruises, you may want to pack costumes or outfits to represent your favorite superheroes or movie characters. Halloween costumes are a must on Halloween on the High Seas cruises, and holiday apparel won't go amiss on Very Merrytime cruises around the holidays. Trust me…..Marvel fans, you'll want to dress the part for this. Our Marvel day was the day we boarded the ship, so I have to be honest, our outfits weren't as pulled together as I would have liked.
I recommend having a variety of bills available on hand for tipping. Disney Cruise Lines does charge each guest a set amount in tips per day, however, many guests will find that there are a few areas where having cash for additional tips is helpful. The Disney Visa is another popular credit card to consider if you are sailing with Disney Cruise Line. It's not only fun to have a decorated door, but it can also help your kids (and you!) easily spot your door while you're still getting used to the ship. Refillable water bottle stations are available around the ship, so pack a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated for free. Your Disney Cruise will likely have a themed night, though the theme will depend on where you're sailing.
For Bahamian Cruises, Disney usually books a day at the Disney Owned island, Castaway Cay. Guests will want to pack sunscreen, bathing suits, water-bottles, maybe some sand toys, and anything else you may need to enjoy a day at the beach. These are some perfect water-bottles that are good for bringing along with you. Non Perishable snack foods packed in sealed, original packaging.
